The gender-bending bird now called George has spent the past two years gradually transforming from a hen into a cockerel. Georgina used to produce eggs every morning, but George has now stopped laying and boasts a bright-red male 'cockscomb' on top of its head. His voice has even 'broken' and the four-year-old crows at 6am and bosses his former hen friends around. George's owner Jane Howorth has cared for over 10,000 former battery hens and says it is the first time she has seen a sex swap. She says Georgina was always a 'big girl' but her suspicions became aroused when she noticed her hen developed Hairy legs. George is a hermaphrodite or 'intersex' hen, but experts say the odds of him making the full transformation are 10,000 to one.
